30 years ago on August 30, 1987, Bulgaria’s athlete Stefka Kostadinova set a new high jump world record at the Olympic Stadium in Rome.

Renowned coach Liliyana Videva has received her certificate as Bulgaria's first European Athletics Women's Leadership Award national winner.
Videva was awarded during a special ceremony organised by the Bulgarian Athletics Federation in Sofia. "I am very excited and grateful to European Athletics for this award. To me it is a recognition of the job done by the Bulgarian women in sports, in general, and athletics in particular," she said.
After a successful career as a high jumper, Videva went on to coach a number of top Bulgarian athletes to national and international glory.
One of her wards, Long Jump star Petar Dachev, became a world junior champion in 1998 and European indoor champion in 2000. Mirela Demireva, another High Jump prodigy guided by Videva became European junior champion in 2007 and grabbed the world junior title in 2008.
Last week Triple Jump star Momchil Karailiev was presented with the Bulgarian Athlete of the Year award at a glittering ceremony organised by the Bulgarian Athletics Federation in Sofia last week.
The 27-year-old Karailiev enjoyed a great outdoor season during the year, reaching the men's Triple Jump final at the IAAF World Championships in Athletics in Berlin and claiming a bronze medal at the World Athletics Final in Thessaloníki, Greece.
Karailiev's coach Atanas Ivanov was named as the Coach of the Year. The two were congratulated by Bulgaria's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, Tzvetan Tzvetanov, and Svilen Neykov, the minister of physical education and sports.
Long Jump prodigy Daniel Dobrev, a bronze medallist at the European Youth Olympic Festival and a finalist at the World Youth Championships, was named Rising Star of the Year.
