PM EXPECTS COMMITMENT IN SEVILLE FOR ROADMAP EN ROUTE TO EU

A summit of European Union leaders began in the Spanish city of Seville, with immigration set to dominate the proceedings. Bulgaria’s Prime Minister Saxe-Coburg attends the summit, leading a country, which hopes to accelerate its negotiations with the European Union and join in 2006. He is accompanied by Foreign Minister Passy and Euro-integration Minister Meglena Kuneva. Saxe-Coburg told reporters in Seville that he expected a commitment for an exact roadmap for Bulgaria’s accession negotiations with the EU from the closing for Spain’s presidency EU summit. The summit aims to find a common strategy to crack down on unwanted foreigners, following the success of several far-right parties campaigning on an anti-immigrant platform in a string of elections across Western Europe. The summit is also expected to discuss the accession of 10 new members to the union in 2004.
