The US Condemns Houthis for Abducting Bulgarian Sailors
Barbara Leaf, the US Assistant Secretary of State for Middle East Affairs, criticized the Yemeni Houthis for their inhumane actions in capturing merchant ships, including the "Galaxy Leader"
Bulgarians, living in the United States, have vehemently defended the country's ambassador there as pressure is piled up on the president to recall him over alleged election violations.
The letter has been sent to the president, the prime minister, the parliamentary speaker and the foreign minister.
It points out that the vote for Bulgaria's parliament in the United States has not been marred by violations and the whole embassy, headed by Ambassador Lachezar Petkov, have went to great lengths to set up voting sections in all places with Bulgarian communities.
The Bulgarian nationals express their regrets over an accident that led to the destruction of part of the ballots, which according to them have come as a result of the neglect of an official from the embassy, whom they say should be punished.
Last week the Bulgarian government approved the recall of the Ambassadors to Turkey and the Unites States, Branimir Mladenov and Lachezar Petkov, over violations in the Bulgarian Parliamentary Elections in July 2009 in the respective countries.
President Georgi Parvanov, whose signature is needed in order to actually recall the incriminated Ambassadors, however said he is not convinced that they are guilty and accused the government of excluding him from the investigation of their alleged violations.
The president said he first needed to see all evidence indicating the violations in question stressing that he would remove them if they were responsible.
Bulgaria's Prime Minister Boyko Borisov has made it clear he won't step back on his decision to recall the country's ambassadors to Turkey and the United States despite the president's disagreement. He has expressed confidence that Parvanov will finally embrace that decision.
