Bulgaria: Bulgaria Registers 20% Construction Sector Collapse Y/Y

Bulgaria’s construction sector production dropped in September by 19,7%, compared to the same month in 2008.

Building construction fell by almost a quarter (24,4%), while civil engineering also declined, by 9,3%, according to preliminary monthly data published by the Bulgarian Statistical Institute (NSI) on Tuesday.

Compared with the month of August, there was a fall in total production of 1,7%, while the first nine months of this year, production dropped by 11,5% when compared with the same period in 2008.

The overall decline in production of the Bulgarian construction industry has been largely determined by negative trends in building construction, which comprises 66,3% of the total sector.
