Bulgaria police have discovered a gold smuggling channel that involved a bus company transporting gold and gold products to and fro across the Bulgaria – Turkey border.

Police from the Department for Combating Organized crime in Burgas uncovered the scheme that used the Malko Tarnovo border crossing point. In the scheme a producer of gold and silver ornaments used a bus firm to transport goods from Istanbul to Bulgarian partners – they offered unhindered delivery of ordered jewelry from them against a very low cost.

The bus company that regularly traveled through Bulgaria on transit carried the hidden gold. They had a commitment for distribution of jewelry in Bulgaria and on the way back to Turkey they carried scrap gold and money.

The police detained a son and father from Panagyurishte, and a 38-year-old Turk, who was a driver of the company ‘Vardar’ company from Turkey.
