The Chair of the Appellate Court in the Black Sea city of Burgas, Dora Chineva, submitted her resignation Tuesday, the Court press center informed.

Chineva asked to take her retirement since she is of retirement age and has the required years of service.

Her request reads: “My current ailing health, additionally influenced by the shadow of doubt cast lately on my reappointment as Chair of the Court do not allow me to continue my work.”

Chineva became the second magistrate from Burgas to resign since the beginning of the week over alleged involvement with the notorious “Krasiocorruption scandal. On Monday the Administrative Head of the Burgas Regional Prosecutors' Office, Angel Angelov, also submitted his resignation after being interrogated regarding the controversial case and after it was revealed that he had held a 90 second phone call with ‘Krasio’ from Pleven. The latter is an individual who, allegedly, offered magistrates to secure their appointment to high ranking positions through the vote of the Supreme Judicial council (VSS) in exchange for EUR 200 000 in cash.

Angelov admitted that doubt had been cast regarding his legitimate appointment to his post and that he had made a bad judgment regarding the phone call. He however, pointed out that the Krasio conversation was purely routine and did not involve anything that clouded his decisions.
