The father of Bulgaria’s latest kidnapping victim has received Wednesday afternoon a short text message (sms) from the abductors.

According to the Bulgarian “Standard” daily, citing unnamed sources, close to the investigation, Rumen Guninski Sr. received the following text on his cell phone: “We have your son.”

The sms had not included a ransom amount, but had a phone number for further communications.

The “Standard” sources say the number is most likely the one of a prepaid SIM card and hope to discover where it was purchased and charged.

The Interior Ministry has not officially confirmed the information while the father is quoted as saying late Wednesday evening: “I can no longer speak.”

Also Wednesday, the Sofia City Prosecutor, Nikolay Kokinov, stated that there has not been any ransom demands yet and advised the family to not act without informing the authorities, while Interior Minister, Tsvetan Tsvetanov, said he did not have any new information regarding the case.

22-year-old Rumen Gunenski Jr, was abducted Monday evening by a group of masked men who forced him into a van close to his dormitory in Sofia's Studentski Grad (College Town) Quarter.

In a short interview Tuesday morning for the TV Channel Pro.bg, the father declared that no ransom had been demanded from him, and that he had no idea who and why had kidnapped his son.
