The Sofia District Governor, Krasimir Zhivkov, has stated he was convinced that business interests stay behind Monday’s abduction of Rumen Gunenski Jr.

Zhivkov told the Bulgarian National Television Tuesday morning that the victim’s father, Rumen Gunenski Sr. did not have a joint business with fuel tycoon Valentin Zlatev but that the two were very close friends, and the gas stations owned by Guninski are franchises of Lukoil Bulgaria, whose chief manager is Zlatev.

Zhivkov also said Gunenski Sr. spoke with his son on the phone ten minutes before the abduction. Gunenski Jr. is a student at the National Sports Academy in Sofia.
