The Bulgarian student Georgi Dochev who found Boyzone singer Stephen Gately dead last Saturday has admitted being intimate with the star and his civil partner Andrew Cowles.
Dochev said that he had been partying with Gately and the singer’s civil partner, Andrew Cowles, at a gay night club in Majorca on Friday night, the UK Times reported Friday.
He allegedly accompanied the celebrity couple back to their one-bed apartment where they smoked a small amount of cannabis and were intimate with each other.
Dochev woke at lunchtime on Saturday to find Gately, 33, slumped on a sofa at his home in Port Andratx, according to his statement to Spanish police. He then informed Cowles, 32, an internet entrepreneur.
25-year-old Dochev, said yesterday: “What happened that night is what happened. We were just partying but I can’t really tell you why I went back to their house.”
The psychology student from Sofia said he has been invited to Gately’s funeral in Dublin on Saturday, which is expected to be attended by showbusiness stars and politicians.
Dochev described himself as a good friend of Gately’s, even though he does not speak English and the Boyzone star spoke very little Spanish. They mainly communicated through Cowles, who spoke some Spanish, he said.
