The Court of Appeals in the Black Sea City of Burgas is to decide next week the extradition case of American Citizen, Dimitar Trenchev.
Trenchev is a naturalized US citizen since 1996 but has double citizenship and at the time of his arrest was holding a Bulgarian passport.
In August, the Bulgarian police acted on an US issued international search warrant and arrested the man his southern hometown of Elhovo.
The US demand Trenchev's extradition based on charges he had been in possession of over 5 kilos of cocaine. The man faces 10 years to life in an American prison. Trenchev was arrested on April 9, 2005 in the US town of Lincoln, Nebraska, after a traffic stop. During the search of the car the police discovered 15 kilos of heroin which, allegedly, had been transported from Mexico. The Bulgarian was released on bail, but managed to leave the US. The American authorities then issued an international search warrant and a Nebraska federal judge signed an extradition request .
The Yambol District Court already ruled for Trenchev to be extradited, a sentence he is now appealing.
