Bulgaria’s number 1 goalkeeper, Dimitar Ivankov, will face at least six weeks on the sidelines after breaking his leg in the World Cup qualifier in Cyprus on Saturday.

Bursaspor keeper Ivankov was immediately taken to hospital after being carried off on a stretcher following a second-half collision with Michalis Constantinou.

Meanwhile, uncapped Ivan Bandalovski and fellow defender Mihail Venkov have been called up to the injury-hit Bulgarian squad for Wednesday's final World Cup qualifier against Georgia in Sofia. Ivankov will most likely be replaced by Twente goalkeeper Nikolay Mihaylov.

Bulgaria's slim hopes of reaching the play-offs were ended by this weekend's crushing 4-1 Group 8 defeat in Cyprus. Italy lead the group with 20 points, followed by Ireland on 16. Bulgaria are third on 11.
