Saturday's murder in the northeast Bulgarian town of Veliki Preslav is the result of personal issues, and is not ethnically motivated.

This was stated Sunday by Bulgaria’s Interior Minister, Tsvetan Tsvetanov, after it became clear that four men aged between 17 and 21 were detained about the murder.

Early on Saturday the beheaded body of 48-year-old Mehmed Tefik was discovered in Veliki Preslav, Shumen District.

The man’s head was found in a nearby construction site; according to the police, it has been dragged there by stray dogs. No weapons have been found on the spot of the crime.

On Saturday, the victim’s brother, Metin Tefik, claimed that the murder was ethnically motivated even though he did not provide any reasons to support these claims.
