Boyko Borisov Votes with a Paper Ballot: Is there a Functioning Machine, or Have They Run Out?
Boyko Borisov chose to cast his vote with a paper ballot in Bankya today.
A committee of bloggers and internet forum users has unveiled its candidate, Teodor Dechev, for the Sofia Mayor elections on November 15.
Dechev, the Deputy Chairman of the Union for Private Economic Enterprise (UPEE0), had been tipped by numerous active bloggers to be their own candidate in the upcoming race for Sofia mayor.
Dechev stated Tuesday that resolving the issue of "transport chaos in the capital" would be his main priority. This will include providing parking at the entrances of the city's metro stations.
The bloggers have openly criticized the Blue coalition, which brings together the two biggest right-wing parties, for deciding not to nominate their own candidate and for "seeking a comfortable shelter under GERB's wing", referring to the party of former Sofia mayor and current Prime Minister Boyko Borisov.
Dechev concluded that he would provide an alternative to GERB for the people of Sofia and would attempt to stop them from becoming too powerful and controlling the Bulgarian political system.
The Bulgarian capital Sofia has to hold partial local elections because the leader of the GERB party, Boyko Borisov, who has been the Mayor since 2005 (reelected in 2007), became Prime Minister of Bulgaria in July 2009.
