Teodor Dechev, Deputy Chairman of the Union for Private Economic Enterprise (UPEE0), has been tipped by numerous active bloggers to be their own candidate in the upcoming race for Sofia mayor.
"More than a decade we have been forced to vote against what our conscience and mind tell us. We cast the ballot with disgust. Now the end of our ordeal has finally come," reads a declaration of the forum society "De zorata" in support of Dechev's nomination.
The bloggers openly criticize the Blue coalition, which brings together the two biggest right-wing parties, for deciding not to nominate their own candidate and for "seeking a comfortable shelter under GERB's wing", referring to the party of former Sofia mayor and current Prime Minister Boyko Borisov.
The bloggers plan to set up an initiative committee to nominate Teodor Dechev for mayor of Sofia.
The Bulgarian capital Sofia has to hold partial local elections because the leader of the GERB party, Boyko Borisov, who has been the Mayor since 2005 (reelected in 2007), became Prime Minister of Bulgaria in July 2009.
