Bulgaria traffic police have started a campaign to "save the children" before the start of the new school year on September 15.

At the beginning of the new school year the Interior Ministry promised to take concrete measures for the safety of adolescents and limiting conditions for the occurrence of traffic accidents.

Over 1300 children and adolescents under the age of 17 were injured in road accidents last year. Sofia traffic police will present an analysis of accidents in which the victims are children later Monday.

The traffic police announced early Monday that a child's coat and shoes should have good reflectors on if they are traveling to school alone. They also announced that it is unacceptable for children under the age of 7 to be allowed to ride bicycles unsupervised and children under 12 should have special safety seats in cars.

They concluded by reminding children that even if they are late to school they must never run across the street.
