A criminal group of eight policemen, who were working in the Byala Slatina area have been arrested for extortion of Bulgarian and foreign nationals.

Interior Minister, Tsvetan Tsvetanov, stated Saturday that the eight policemen were members of the traffic police and operational workers in the Vratsa police department.

3600 bullets, metal detectors, illegal radar and 500 road infringement acts were found in the possession of the group. They have now been taken away for questioning.

Tsvetanov also announced that a 37-year-old man was arrested in North-West Bulgaria Friday, for who the local police had issued a nationwide arrest warrant on April 24. He is thought to be a member of alleged mafia boss Zlatomir Ivanov, aka Zlatko Baretata's criminal group.
