The Bulgarian Social Ministry spent over BGN 64 M for professional development of workers and unemployed individuals in the last four years.

The data was revealed Friday by the Social Minister, Totyu Mladenov, who pointed out that despite the huge amount Bulgaria still lacks qualified human resources and businesses have a hard time finding the right people.

According to Mladenov it is unacceptable to spent so much and still "import" workers from abroad as the current situation is. The Minister appealed for urgent measures to create a national policy for work force development in order to avoid even more serious problems in the future.

The Bulgarian Council for Employment decided Friday to limit to the maximum the hiring of foreigners from countries outside the EU in order to protect the Bulgarian labor market. The local businesses will be required to hire Bulgarians over foreigners with similar qualifications.
