Bulgaria's recently appointed Education Minister Yordanka Fandakova is very likely to change her office soon as rumors say she will be nominated by the ruling GERB party to run for mayor of the capital Sofia.
The Bulgarian capital Sofia will hold partial local elections on November 15 after the leader of the GERB party, Boyko Borisov, who has been the Mayor since 2005 (reelected in 2007), became Prime Minister of Bulgaria in July 2009.
The nomination of Fandakova for Sofia mayor candidate would come as a surprise mainly because of her lack of experience.
She was born in the southwest town of Samokov in 1964 and graduated from the Russian language high school in Sofia, while later obtained a degree in Russian language from Sofia University.
In 1985-1998, she was a teacher at the 73rd high school in Sofia, "Vladislav Gramatik".
In 1998-2005, she was the principal of the same school.
In 2005, after the election of Boyko Borisov as Sofia Mayor, Fandakova became Deputy Mayor of Sofia in charge of education and youth.
Today, at a meeting of Sofia Task Force Headquarters set up to control the spread of COVID-19, Mayor of the capital Yordanka Fandakova intends to propose two new measures against the spread of Covid-19:
,,The election campaign has begun.
8 new kindergartens are being built in Sofia, 5 of which will accommodate children by the end of this year and the remaining 3 by next year.
"I have not decided whether to run, but if I decide to run, I will become a mayor.
My decision whether to run for mayor of Sofia will be dictated by the interest of the citizens.
,,The repair and restoration of the mineral bath in Bankya will end in one year'', said Yordanka Fandakova, Mayor of Sofia.
