The tallest Christian cross on the Balkans, 72 meters, will be built in Bulgaria in memory of the victims of the hellish bus crash at the Bakadzhik peak.

Currently, at the peak there is a Bulgarian-Soviet Friendship monument, which will be removed.

According to the plan, the cross will be seen from every point of the Trakiya Highway and even from the Turkish Edirne.

A bus careered down a mountainside called Bakadzhik Peak and plowed through a crowd of pedestrians heading to a religious festival in southeastern Bulgaria Thursday, killing 18 people and injuring at least 20.

Police said the bus had failed to stop due to a technical problem.

A report is expected to be presented soon. It will show whether the bus driver, who is only a witness now, will be charged.
