Momchil Karailiev qualified dramatically for the final of the Men's Triple Jump competition at the Athletics World Championships in Berlin.
Karailiev left it until his last jump to produce a 17.07 meter distance that assured him of his place in Tuesday's final. He became the first Bulgarian to reach a final so far in the Berlin World Championships.
Karailiev was not in a qualifying position after his first two jumps, his first of which was a foul and his second a leap of 16.87 meters. However he left the best until last and qualified in 7th place for the final.
He has been touted as a possible medalist by some foreign media after jumping a personal best 17.41 meters earlier this year but has been struggling with injury leading up to the Championships.
The final will be at 19:05 Bulgarian time on Tuesday and Karailiev will face tough competition from Olympic and World champion Nelson Evora from Portugal.
