A Bulgarian citizen, with a US issued international search warrant, has been detained Thursday in the southern town of Elhovo.

Bulgaria's police from the city of Yambol and employees of a special task team to fight organized crime had conducted a joint action to arrest the alleged perpetrator in his own home.

Bulgaria's Supreme Prosecutor's Office of Cassations has already initiated the extradition procedure.

The 52-year-old Bulgarian man with the initials D.T. was arrested on April 9, 2005 in the US town of Lincoln after a traffic stop. During the search of the car the police discovered 15 kilos of heroin which, allegedly, had been transported from Mexico.

The Bulgarian was released on bail, but managed to leave the US. The American authorities then issued an international search warrant.
