The new Sofia Metro line launched May 9, 2009, has already transported 600 000 commuters in less than one month.

The new line connecting the Mladost 1 residential quarter with the downtown at Vasil Levski Stadium station is in fact the second end of the first Sofia Metro line.

The whole first line of the Sofia subway will be completed by September 15, according to the CEO of the Sofia Metropolitan company, Stoyan Bratoev, as quoted by the Pari Daily.

The only part of the line still under construction is between the Serdica Station and the Vasil Levski Stadium. Once completed, a direct subway connection will be established between Sofia's two largest residential quarters - "Mladost" and "Lyulin".

The Sofia University metro station in the very downtown of Sofia is supposed to be completed by July 20, according to Bratoev.
