Turkey Backs Mark Rutte for NATO Secretary General Role
Turkey has thrown its support behind outgoing Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte for the position of NATO Secretary General,
Bulgarian MP and NATO Secretary General bidder, Solomon Passy, considers NATO as the most prepared organization to secure shipping vessels.
He commented Saturday on the water transportation issue during his visit to the Northeast city of Shumen, Darik Radio reported.
"In my opinion, the Alliance can help the United Nations in their mission to secure peace around the world. If NATO starts protecting vessels and water transport, it will be large income in the organization's budget. Petrol Companies would rather pay for security than for kidnapped ships and new equipment", Passy explained.
Negotiations for freeing the kidnapped Bulgarian sailors are lead very skillfully by the Bulgarian government, he said. The UK-owned ship Malaspina Castle was hijacked on April 6 in the Gulf of Aden, with 16 Bulgarian sailors on it.
Passy also said that election laws should had been passed four years ago, so that political parties and voters had the chance to get used to the new rules.
