Runners in Bulgaria European Vote to Register by May 12

Politics » EU & PARLIAMENTARY ELECTIONS 2009 | April 6, 2009, Monday // 19:10

Bulgarian parties and coalitions, willing to join the race for MEPs, should submit their papers to the Central Electoral Commission by May 12, it was announced on Monday.

Bulgarians, living in EU member states, who want to vote in the MEP elections, should submit a request to this effect with the embassies or the consular services in the respective countries within twenty days.

Under latest amendments to the legislation additional voting booths will be open in EU member states, where voters live far away from Bulgaria's diplomatic representation.

In a bid to prevent the so-called election tourism legislative amendments approved before the elections for MEPs in 2007 provide only for people, who have lived in Bulgaria during the last three months, to have the right to a vote.

EU member citizens, who will vote in Bulgaria for MEPs, should submit their declarations to the municipalities by April 27.

European Parliament elections will be held on June 7 in Bulgaria.
