BRITISH AMERICAN TOBACCO CLOSES OPERATIONS IN BULGARIA

Business | May 29, 2002, Wednesday // 00:00

The International tobacco group British American Tobacco announced that the company decided to close its subsidiary and reduce to the maximum its operations in Bulgaria by end-June, 2002. The argument for withdrawal, written in an official release for the media, is the decision of the company not to participate in the sell-off procedure of Bulgaria’s tobacco monopoly Bulgartabac Holding. "Due to its recent decision not to take part in the privatisation of Bulgartabac, British American Tobacco has decided to sharply reduce its activity in Bulgaria and close down its existing organisation in end-June," BAT said in a statement.
