The new version of the notorious song "Illusion" selected to represent Bulgaria at the "Eurovision 2009" contest finals in Moscow was judged Thursday by some of the country's esteemed musical experts.
The song was presented at the National Place of Culture in Sofia. Darik radio was the only media allowed in Hall 2.
Since song writer and performer Krasimir Avramov and "Illusion" were selected at the end of February to represent Bulgaria at the "Eurovision 2009" finals, Avramov has been the subject of harsh criticism on the part of fellow musicians, who accuse him of singing out of tune, and demand that he gives up his Moscow bid.
In the aftermath of the scandal, the show organizers, the Bulgarian National Television, (BNT), assembled a team of specialists to work on improving Avramov's singing and revise the music to make it easier to be performed. The team includes well-known Bulgarian singer Petya Buyklieva, who is also going to be Avramov's back vocal, in case he goes to Moscow in May.
Buyklieva said Thursday that the song had chances to "sound incredibly, and with God's help it would represent Bulgaria very well in Moscow." Avramov, himself, voiced satisfaction with the new version.
The Director of the "Music and Entertainment" Department of BNT, Lyuben Kunchev stated he believed the experiment was working, but there was still work to be done.
"The parts of the song, that Krasimir could perform well, but also could fail to perform, are backed by Buyklieva's voice. I think we are on the right path, but there is still a lot to be expected from the performance. Respected musical experts gathered today in Hall 2, and they voiced their opinion. I am grateful for the many objections. But they also confirmed the new version has future," Kunchev said.
The Director told Darik that BNT has not yet made their final decision about Bulgaria's participation in the Moscow finals, but the papers to include the song would be submitted with "Eurovision 2009" anyway.
