The European Parliament adopted Thursday at first reading the proposal of a new directive for management of road infrastructures safety.
The directive is aimed at establishing common standards for all EU member-states so that the number of the road accidents could be decreased.
It has been estimated that the improvement of the infrastructure would save the lives of at least 600 annually.
The directive provides for performing audits and inspections for increasing the overall road safety.
There will be defined the most risky sections, placing new signs, introducing intelligent transport and emergency systems.
