Bulgaria's Parliament Speaker Georgi Pirinski opened Thursday a conference entitled "The Lisbon Treaty and the Charter of Fundamental Rights - Advantages and Benefits for EU Citizens".

"The successful application of the Charter of Fundamental Rights in Bulgaria necessitates the improvement of the labor and social rights of the Bulgarian citizens through a series of measures", said Dr. Zhelyazko Hristov, the President of KNSB (Confederation of Independent Syndicates in Bulgaria).

In his words, the implementation of the Charter provisions would require guaranteed rights of syndicate association, the negotiating of minimum wages, and the participation of workers in company management.
