Bulgarian Railways Considers Video Surveillance in Trains for Enhanced Security
Bulgarian State Railways (BDZ) is planning to introduce video surveillance on its trains
Only one out of three fire-extinguishers was functioning at the time when Sofia-Kardam night train caught fire early on Friday, witness claimed.
"The greatest paradox was that even the only extinguisher, which could be used, was not in perfect order," explained Marina Novacheva, a student, who was on board of the machine.
"Besides, all doors between the cars were locked. I think that caused the deaths of the victims - they just were not able to get out of the train," she added.
Novacheva said also the staff was panic-stricken, except one employee, who started pulling out some of the passengers and even tried to put off the blazes, using the only fire-extinguisher available.
The number of the burned bodies found after the fire has risen to four, as a child is also among the casualties reported.
