Bulgaria's Education Minister Daniel Valchev visits Tuesday one of the world's largest and most respected centres for nuclear scientific research in Switzerland.

The delegation going to the CERN research centre near Geneva also includes renowned Bulgarian physicists.

The CERN Laboratory is created in 1954 and is one of the Europe's first joint ventures now having 20 member states.

"The Organization shall provide for collaboration among European States in nuclear research of a pure scientific and fundamental character," the convention of the centre signed on the day of creation reads.

The document also states that CERN promotes contacts between scientists and international interchange with other laboratories and institutes

The centre has welcomed 23 Bulgarian scientists, as well as personnel from the Institutte of Nuclear Reasearch and a number of students since the country joined the organisation in 1999.
