Bulgaria is to see heavy snowfalls in the south-western part as well as strong winds in the east during the forthcoming weekend, meteorologists reported.

The temperatures will drop sharply in the next two days but are expected to run higher, starting Monday.

The whole country will first record downpours that are to turn into snowfalls on the territory of the Danube Plain and in the north-western Bulgaria on Sunday.

The predicted quantity of the rainfalls is between 40 and 50 l/m2.

The first significant snowfalls that came last weekend caused transport problems for motorists across Bulgaria, a sad reminder that just like any other year, authorities have been "surprised" by the weather and caught unprepared when it comes to having the snow removal machinery ready.
