The overall amount of credits extended by the World Bank /WB/ to Bulgaria stands at USD 1.463 billion for 25 operations, said Thomas
O`Brien, the WB resident representative in the country. Nine structural operations have been brokered, worth a total of USD 850 million, and 15 investment loans totalling USD 602 million, plus a WB managed financing from the global environmental fund amounting to USD 9.9 million. Of all 25 operations 11 have been completed 2 have been cancelled and 12 are in progress. They concern improvement of the social system, education, healthcare services and for supporting the local communities, in projects concerning the modernization of the energy sector, water supply, and transport. The operations include the
projects of the WB`s program for Bulgaria`s development between 2002 and 2004. As of January 2001, the WB portfolio for Bulgaria stands at USD 130 million, O`Brien said.
