Sofia University "Saint Kliment Ohridski" is to inaugurate the new academic year on October 1 but may close its doors shortly after.
Sofia University, which is the oldest university in Bulgaria and until recently the most prestigious one, will welcome its students on Monday but plans to cut the school year short a month later should the state fail to guarantee higher subsidies.
The university demands that the state subsidy is increased by 10% to 100% and its budget brought up to BGN 51 M.
The government is expected to prepare the fiscal framework for 2008 in November.
