Blast in Turkish Capital Kills 5, Injures 60

An explosion in a shopping district in the centre of Turkey's capital Ankara killed at least five and injured another sixty, officials said.

Deputy Prime Minister Mehmet Ali Sahin said the cause of the explosion in Ankara's Anafartalar shopping area was not yet clear.

The blast occurred at a bus stop near the Ulus square in the city center, Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan told reporters.

The explosion was caused by plastic explosives, a police bomb expert told Bloomberg agency on condition of anonymity.

Police cordoned off the area of the explosion and windows of shops in the area were shattered and many ambulances were sent to the area.

Police are evacuating the area.
