Bulgaria's National Archaeological Museum opened Friday a new exhibition, featuring only items that have never been shown to the public.

The exhibition includes gold coins, ancient sword and helmets.

The presentation of these rare items is part of the European "Long Night of Museums" initiative.

Most of the objects were unearthed in 2006 and are now ready to go on display after a year of restoration by the museum's specialists.

The Long Night of Museums is a cultural event organized together by multiple museums and cultural institutions in a location during which the establishments remain open late into the night. Marketed together, the event seeks to introduce new individuals into the cultural institutions.

The first Long Night of Museums took place in Berlin in 1997. Since then, the number of participating institutions and exhibitions has risen from 12 to 125. A common entrance pass both allows visitors to access all spots and to access public transportation to reach the various spots.
