Bulgaria and Romania's EU accession will move the geographic centre of the Union.

The small town of Kleinmaischeid in the Westerwald Mountain will no longer have the privilege to be called geographic centre of the EU, DPA said.

Kleinmaischeid's mayor Horst Rasbach said the citizens of the town will face the fact calmly.

Kleinmaischeid, whose population is 1,400 people, was appointed geographic centre two and a half years ago by the French National Geographic Institute.

The Institute has not appointed the new centre yet.
