Austrian MEPs from the European People's Party have stated that they approve of Bulgaria's EU Accession, now that there is no doubt that Kozloduy Nuclear Power Plant Units 3&4 will be closed before January 1, 2007.
Foreign Affairs Spokesman Hurbert Pirker has said that the closure of the two units is part of an already ratified Accession Treaty and that it should be kept.
"Pirker: Yes for Bulgaria, no for Kozloduy," Austrian website www.oekonews.at writes over the interview with the spokesman. Pirker also called upon the EU to keep its promise and pay Bulgaria the compensations for the closure of the units.
"So far Bulgaria has proved to be a good partner, whose EU membership we welcome," Pirker said. "But we can not and don't want to allow unacceptable risks to the security."
