Bulgaria's First Shaolin Monk Back to Homeland

The first Bulgarian to ever train with the Shaolin monks has returned from Tibet after close to a year in the legendary Buddhist monastery.

Victor Azmanov is the youngest European to ever have been allowed a stay with the monks, state BNT channel reported.

Azmanov has 20 years of martial arts training behind him and his dream had always been working with the Shaolin monks. After lots of e-mails and several tough exams, he was accepted into the community and is back to share some of the secrets and disperse of some of the myths.

"No one flies there, that's just a legend," he said at Sofia Airport. However he shared that monks were indeed once able to pierce a whole in a tree with their fingers only and crack the ground with their feet. Only two of those skillful in these ancient martial arts remained, and one had died this year, Azmanov said, adding that the second one was his teacher.

The Bulgarian, who speaks 6 languages, now plans to become a Kung Fu teacher, and although he wants to go back to Shaolin at some point, he sees his future in the homeland.
