Bread in Bulgaria is expected to reach the psychological threshold price of BGN 1 per kilo come 2007, Darik News revealed.
Prices are being artificially kept low in many cities, Dimitar Lyudiev, head of the Bulgarian bread producers' federation has said, adding that these cities would be the first ones to see an increase.
Flour prices have soared by 30% to 40% already and this is the main reason why bread will become more expensive. Upped fuel and electricity prices have also influenced the bread producers' decision.
Also, salaries in that branch of the economy are too low and would be rising after January 1, a factor that will further influence bread prices.
