You live, you die - I thought it was up to some higher force to decide who stays and who moves on. But recently, I began to understand that Bulgarian doctors and the health system in the country have assumed that function. First it was the case with the Russe journalist Pavel Stoyanov, 26, whose death was caused by the doctors' negligence. Now I hear that another young man passed away after his doctor prescribed him "yoghurt with salt" as a cure for thrombosis. The situation becomes even more absurd when I remember that just a month earlier one high-ranked Bulgarian health official also vied for the position of "God." I have always believed that these people who take the Hippocratic Oath and who have said aloud in front of many witnesses "I will prescribe regimens for the good of my patients according to my ability and my judgment and never do harm to anyone. To please no one will I prescribe a deadly drug nor give advice which may cause his death" are here to serve the people. But maybe I have been wrong? I know that the whole health system is in very bad condition, but, still, this is a person's life we are talking about, it has nothing to do with the low salaries or the old material base... A person's life should not be determined through Russian roulette.
