The first season of VIP Brother in Bulgaria saw its end amid abounding fanfares and firework-lit night sky.

Though seen as an adventurous approach towards local starlife, the show has unfolded in a deja vu, but more concise format.

The similarities with the previous two seasons of Big Brother seemed to be more than the differences. A dozen people - equal number of men and women - entered the house on the premises of Boyana film centre.

They had to "work their budget" in missions, slept in a common bedroom, nominated each other for elimination.

The striking difference was the glazing luxury in the stars' domicile - yet, it seemed not to be enough for keep the peace and friendliness among the roommates. Love and anger, passion and brutality quickly conquered the routine life watched by VIP Brother and the whole of Bulgaria.

In a dГ©jГ  vu style, however, women trod a path away from the house leaving only a Miss Bulgaria and lonely mother on the final. Nor the beauty crown, or the small daughter with her helped Violeta Zdravkova outpace folk-singer Konstantin in the final voting of Nova TV audience.

So, a male was again winner - but not simply a man.

In all previous editions of the show the happy check-holder was in a way promoted by a female hand. Zdravko from Big Brother-1 saw a transformation from a playboy to an expecting father after his girlfriend broke the show's rules and informed him live she was pregnant.

The second season last autumn saw an even bitterer soap opera, as a fresh knot-tied family split while living in the house. The husband - Miroslav - triumphed after three months of isolation and torture in the grips of broken heart.

And now the winner is Konstantin - the charming, simple and open man - who was largely interpreted as a victim of his whiny girlfriend, and duet partner, Raina.

While avoiding making any generalizations, it seems to me that Bulgarian men stand good on the TV screen and also play roles better than women. Hopefully Big/VIP Brother is successful enough to find his female face one day.
