The world's best short-track speed skaters gather for the Winter Olympics and in the women's events Bulgaria's Evgenia Radanova is said to be the Chinese champions' main threat. Radanova was the first women to go under 44 seconds in the 500 meters when she clocked 43.873 at the 2000 Goodwill Games in Lake Placid before she broke that record with 43.671 at Calgary in a World Cup event last October. China's dual of Yang Yang (A) and Yang Yang (S) -- the letters were added to distinguish between the two namesakes -- are expected to win their country's first gold medal at the Winter Games. Yang Yang (A), who was going to retire after the Nagano Games, has dominated the sport in recent years, winning the last five world titles. In the relay events, Bulgaria, South Korea, China, Japan, and Italy are expected to challenge for the medals in the women's events, while South Korea, Japan, China and Italy are the main medal hopes in the men’s events.
