Bulgaria's football grand CSKA Sofia suffered a defeat in the UEFA Cup group stage game after the German Hamburger scored the only goal for ninety-three minutes.
Van der Vaart opened the score for Hamburger in the 58th minute and left the Bulgarian squad disappointed in the beginning of the second half.
The team of Miodrag Jesic had several good opportunities during the game.
In the beginning of the first half Gargorov missed a perfect opportunity after receiving a wonderful pass from Tiago Silva on the left. In the 21st minute Silva once again stormed Hamburger's half but missed to score. In the 35th minute of the game Barbarez missed the target from close range and failed to open the score for Hamburger.
In the 70th minute of the second half CSKA's Hdiouad missed a wonderful opportunity to equalize.
Hamburger's coach Thomas Doll was forced to watch his side from the stands after being sent off in Copenhagen.
CSKA Sofia booked their place in the group stages of the competition after seeing off another German side Bayer Leverkusen in the first round. CSKA Sofia's other rivals in the group stage will be Monaco FC, Slavia Praha and Norway's Viking FK.
Three Bulgarian teams have reached that stage of the UEFA tournament - CSKA Sofia, Levksi and Litex Lovech.
