Bulgarian opera prima Raina Kabaivanska auditioned the candidates for her master class.
More than 56 talents from Bulgaria, Macedonia, Georgia, Ukraine, Great Britain, France, Italy and Argentina have declared their willingness to join Kabaivanska's class.
The grandiose performer organized a master class in the New Bulgarian University in 2001 for the first time, while in 2002 she formed a special fund allotting scholarships for talented singers. So far 7 young Bulgarians have received scholarships. This year the scholarship will go either to a Bulgarian or a foreign talent, Kabaivanska said at a special press conference.
Kabaivanska was born in the coastal town of Burgas and completed her vocal and piano studies at the Conservatory in Sofia. In 1958 she moved to Italy and in 1861 started a brilliant career with her debut at La Scala. Since then has sung in famous theatres worldwide: Paris, Venice, Naples, Moscow, San Francisco, Philadelphia, New York, Salzburg, Munich, Hamburg, Budapest, Sofia.
She is renowned for her interpretations of Tosca, Manon, Francesca da Rimini and Madame Butterfly, which has led her to be named The Heroine of Melodramma.
