Opera soprano singer Mirella Freni arrived in Sofia Sunday, and will join events organized to mark 75 years since her late husband, Nikolay Ghyaurov, was born.
Freni said she was glad to visit the country, as it reminded her of the happy moments with the great basso Ghyaurov.
"Bulgaria was the love of his life," Freni said upon arriving at Sofia Airport.
A special commemoration will take place in Sofia on Monday. The event was organized by the National Opera and Ballet, and will be held under the patronage of President Georgi Parvanov.
Giuseppe Verdi's Requiem was one of Ghiaurov's favourite masterpieces. That special piece of art will be presented September 13 by Bulgarian, Greek and Italian singers.
Ghiaurov died in an Italian hospital after falling ill of bronchopneumonia on June 2.
