Tens of thousands of people protested against the reelection of President Chen Shui-bian. Rallies filled in the streets, as China rapped the United States for meddling in its affairs by recognising the narrow win of the current Taiwanese president. He won by fewer than 30,000 votes, with months of continued legal wrangling in prospect. Chen's victory was officially confirmed Friday but the opposition has refused to accept the results.
