The Second Regional Conference of the Stability Pact, held for two days in succession, on 25-26 October 2001 in Bucharest, Romania, reached the conclusion that the international community will continue political and financial support for the countries of the South-Eastern European region included in the Stability Pact Initiative. Sources from the Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Trade told ATA that "the donor countries and international organizations have provided Albania with a financing that totals 304.67m euros. Albania has received financing per capita more than any country of the region and several times more than Macedonia". Albania has received the biggest financing in energy, of 217.3m euros, and then in the projects in Durres Port, around 47m euros, as well as around 40m euros on projects that support the road infrastructure. According to the National Coordinator for the Stability Pact on Albania, Ermelinda Meksi, "in the political aspect the conference confirmed the political will of the international community to support the Pact's participating countries and for the process itself. This is based on the positive results of the ongoing reforms of the countries of the region in the Stability - Association process". "The European Union publicly reconfirmed that the South-Eastern European region remains one of the key priorities of its foreign policy and admission to the EU of the countries of region is the real perspective for these countries," said Meksi. The conference reconfirmed once again the priorities on which the Pact will concentrate for the midterm period, among which are economic development based on the development of private sector, trade, infrastructure and promotion of foreign investment...
