Ex-Yugoslav Kostunica to Form Serbian President

World | February 20, 2004, Friday // 00:00

Former Yugoslav President Vojislav Kostunica has secured enough support to form a new Serbian government, Serbian news agency Beta informed on Friday. Kostunica's Democratic Party of Serbia will lead a minority government made up of four parties. However, he will have to rely on the votes of the Socialist party - officially led by Slobodan Milosevic. Kostunica has failed to bring together a majority coalition, but the Socialists have agreed to back his government when it comes up for parliamentary approval. He is thus set to become prime minister after nearly eight weeks of uncertainty following December's elections.
