`At the moment Bulgaria is respondent in 60 cases, including 40 pending ones, with the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg,` Galina Samaras, the only agent of the Bulgarian Government in Strasbourg, said. Samaras spoke during a two-day seminar on the office of the government agent and its role in the protection of human rights. The seminar is organized by the Bulgarian Justice Ministry and the Council of Europe. The emphasis is on the office of the government agent to the European Court of Human Rights and its cooperation with other competent government institutions. Addressing the participants at the opening of the forum, Justice Minister Anton Stankov said that the government agent legislation is being reconsidered because it is a person that has individual responsibility for the communication between Strasbourg and Bulgaria. He also said that the forum is most timely as Bulgaria more and more often is summoned in Strasbourg as a respondent.
