Offshore Earthquake Rattles Japan

A strong offshore earthquake rattled Japan's northernmost main island. There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries. The earthquake registered a preliminary magnitude of 6.0 and was centred 40 kilometres beneath the seabed off the coast of Kushiro. The tremors struck at 10:34 am local time. It was reported that there was no danger of tsunami, powerful ocean waves caused by seismic activity.
